Volunteering and Friendship
Yesterday my friend Jamie and I went to the Assistance League thrift store to volunteer. We mainly just folded clothes and organized others clothes by size, but we had a great time doing it. I’ve realized that volunteer work can be made more fun just by having a friend with you. One service act we did together was in February m, when we took care of children with down syndrome for Elevation Church. It was so fun to do together and we both loved it.
Back at school in Boone, I did a few service activities with friends and enjoyed them. Once we chopped and sorted firewood for a few hours on a crisp fall morning. My freshman seminar class once cooked dinner for the local homeless shelter. It was best to do it with friends and it doesn’t seem like work.
I know I always want to perform service in my life to help others, even when I’m retired. Most of all, I really want a friend that I can perform service and have great experiences with. We should all help others whenever we can. It’s even better when you can help others with your one special friend.
